6 Things To Consider Before Buying A Canvas Print

Posted by Personal Canvas

Canvas prints are the best piece of art you can have in your home and office. They make it easy for you to bring back to life the lost memories by showcasing some of your travel and college photos in style.

However, when buying the best quality canvas prints for your home, you want to ensure you make the right choice.

So, what should you consider most when you're choosing a canvas for your home? Should you consider the price, fabric, design, appearance, or image quality? Or maybe the kind of orientation you want?

All these factors are crucial when making that move to have a canvas print, but still, there are other boxes you must tick before landing your ideal canvas print.

Here are the top things to consider before buying a canvas print:

1 - Picture Resolution

When you shop for the best quality canvas print, you should consider the picture resolution.

The canvas print quality depends on the size of the photo printed. It is also directly linked to the size of frame you chose for the image. You will need a high-resolution image for larger canvas prints to get the best results.

When choosing an image for your canvas prints, you should avoid images lower than 250 KB. For any resolutions below 460 x 310 pixels, the canvas of size 8 x 8 or 8 x 12 inches is not likely to blurry the image.

2 - Print Theme

When choosing a canvas print for your home or office, you should have a print theme in mind.

The theme you opt for should always match your taste and preference.

Nowadays, there is an endless option of canvas designs in the market, and that means you should always take time when choosing your ideal one.

You don't want to just go for a canvas print because it's on the trend. For instance, if you are not a fan of abstract art, you shouldn't buy it because it's in fashion.

Alternatively, you can have multiple canvases printed that are created to fit the same image or a single image that is displayed across multiple prints. These are usually meant for hanging side by side.

4 – The Composition

When shopping for the best canvas prints, you also want to consider the image's quality and composition. This takes centre stage in a situation where you're using the canvas print as simple wall art.

The image composition can play a big role in how the canvas prints enrich your living space.

5 – Canvas As Décor

Another factor you want to consider most when buying a canvas print is whether you need it as décor or just a piece to portray your photos.

Now, no matter what reason you may have for buying a canvas print, you will use it as a décor for your living space.

Therefore, it is wise that you re-examine the aesthetics of the print and what location you want to place it.

A picture is worth a thousand words. When you choose a canvas print, you want to be more careful about the kind of image you have on it. It means the image you choose should be able to display the information or theme you intend to pass to your visitors.

Most people prefer family photos on canvas prints. However, choosing an ideal image will depend on your taste and what message you want to convey.

How to Create Incredible Canvas Prints for Creative Kids Bedrooms

Posted by Personal Canvas

Canvas prints are perfect for little one's bedrooms, capturing their sense of personality and inspiring them to dream big!

Designing custom artwork is an excellent activity to get children involved with, where they can explore the creative process and see their ideas brought to life.

But, if you're not a naturally creative person, helping kids come up with a unique pattern, design or style isn't always an easy challenge.

Here we've put together a few ideas to help inspire parents to come up with special artwork ideas and simple ways to use bespoke canvas prints to help your child customise their bedroom into a special place.

Decide on a Kid's Bedroom Colour Scheme or Theme

The first step is to think about the scheme or overall design of your child's bedroom.

It doesn't need to be a specific genre, which children rapidly grow out of, but could be more general - think:

  • Spots and stripes
  • Green and nature
  • Underwater
  • Relaxation
  • Bold and colourful

Once you've got a baseline, choosing family prints, editing favourite photos, or selecting a frame for a personalised framed picture or poster print is much easier.

Choosing a Canvas Print Size for Bedroom Spaces

Next, let's consider the space you have available.

Personal Canvas Prints create unique pieces in a huge range of sizes and styles, so your artwork could be:

  • Square
  • Landscape
  • Panoramic
  • 30 x 30 cm
  • 46 x 46 cm

A great concept is to create a smaller canvas and then have the opportunity to add new images and designs as your child grows, so don't worry about filling all of the blank wall space in one go!

Your canvas print should also fit with the size of the room, so a very large empty wall will look fantastic with a bigger canvas, whereas smaller bedrooms might feel dwarfed by oversized artworks.

When you upload an image, graphic or photo to our website, we'll automatically advise on the thickness options for your canvas, which is usually between two and four centimetres, depending on the resolution of the picture and the format of your print.

Exploring Creative Design for Kid's Custom Canvas Prints

Your bespoke prints don't need to be a conventional family photo, and it's great to encourage children to think about what images bring them joy and will make their bedroom a happier place to be!

There are countless options to choose from:

  • Holiday photos and favourite memories
  • Captures of their siblings, cousins, or best friends
  • Photos of Mum and Dad or other family members
  • Images of pets, animals or places they'd like to visit
  • Inspirational graphics of dreams your child has
  • Lettered images spelling out their name
  • Favourite characters from movies or TV shows

Note that any images you haven't taken yourself must be royalty-free or licensed for personal use, so you're permitted to use them!

One of our favourite projects is to create a new canvas each year for the same child, usually to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion.

They could select their best moment in the last year, or take a new portrait on every birthday, so you have a beautiful record of their life as they grow!

How to Customise Children's Canvas Print Designs

When you've decided on your images, it's time to have fun with the design tools.

You can select from a vast range of effects, colours and designs through our website, or even play with filters, background, borders and other edits on your mobile app to see what designs your child can come up with.

The Personal Canvas Prints editing tool offers an array of styles, which we'll explain below.

Canvas Print Edge Designs

It's entirely up to your creative imagination how you'd like your canvas to look.

That could be stretched right up to the edge of the canvas material or could feature a professionally crafted edging strip to give a more traditional picture effect.

 Options include:

  • Folded edge designs, with a slightly darker edging strip replicating the graphic behind it.
  • Mirrored edges reflecting the picture immediately next to the borders of your canvas.
  • Bold black or white edges finishing your canvas off perfectly.

You can flick through the edge designs and try them all before making a decision.

Canvas Print Colour Effects

The following customisation option offers three simple colour effects.

If you're looking to edit the photo itself, perhaps sharpening the contrast or making the image brighter, you should adjust this before uploading it to the website.

Original colours mean that our craftspeople will print your exact image with the same colours, shades, tones and textures.

A black and white canvas print is a classic look and timeless style for older children who want something elegant that won't clash with a busy colour scheme.

Sepia effect canvases work wonderfully on old family photos or lend an authentic edge to modern graphics that instantly look like they've been captured on a Polaroid camera rather than a modern mobile!

 Canvas Print Frame Options

Finally, we offer a range of premium frames, again depending on the resolution of your photo.

Our advice always starts with analysing the quality of the graphic, as some images won't work well with particular formatting.

For example, you shouldn't customise a lower resolution onto a large canvas since it will lose clarity, and it'll work far better on a more petite canvas frame.

If you're looking for a modern premium frame, options include simple black, white, chocolate or no frame if you're happy with the gallery-style canvas print look.

We hope these ideas help you decide on the best designs for your child's canvas prints and that they have fun experimenting with the formatting options to arrive at a design that is all their own!

There is no right or wrong way to create a custom canvas print, and the joy of the process and choosing between special memories is a fantastic way to engage with kids interested in putting their stamp on their bedroom.

  • Bold black or white edges finishing your canvas off perfectly.

You can flick through the edge designs and try them all before making a decision.

How To Hang Your Canvas In Your Home, Perfectly!

Posted by Personal Canvas

If you have invested in a gorgeous canvas print for your home, then you are going to want to make sure that you hang it in a way that showcases it in the best light possible.

You may think that it is easy enough to hang a canvas print, but truth be known, if you want to hang it perfectly, it can be more complicated than you realise.

Want to know more? Then here is our guide.

How to Hang Canvas in Your Home

How will you attach it?

Preparation is key when it comes to hanging your canvas in your home. Because they are available in various sizes and styles, so too are the methods that you can hang them in.

The smaller frames that you can buy (16 inches by 16 inches or below) are easier than most to hang up as they simply need a single nail on the wall. This will then need a bracket that will connect with the top rail of the frame.

If the frame is larger, you may need to ditch the above method and instead go with a hanging wire. This could be art wire or string, whichever you prefer, so long as it can take the weight of the frame as this will keep the canvas print steady, level and above everything else secure.

What are your walls like?

Next, you need to think about the wall that you want to hang the canvas sprint on; if it is a standard within your home, you should hammer into the wall using the below process. However, things can be trickier when the walls are made of concrete or brick, and you may want to follow a slightly different approach.

What supplies do I need?

There are some essential tools that you will need to have to hang up your canvas prints in your home. These are:

    Screwdriver
  • Spirit Level
  • Nails
  • Hammer
  • Pencil
  • Measuring Tape or Ruler
  • Wall Protection Pads

It is also worth noting that you will need screws, hangers, wires and eye hooks, depending on where you are going to hang it.

Choose where to hang it

Before you begin, it makes sense that you need to think carefully about where you will hang up your canvas print. It is always the best approach to keep your print at eye level; this is even more important if you place it over a bed or a sofa.

That said, you do need to make sure that you keep the print at least 6 inches between the bottom of the canvas and the highest point of the furniture that it is above, as this will limit the chance of you hitting yourself on it when you get up.

Make it a part of a gallery

One great way that we have seen canvas prints displayed is as a part of a gallery. This not allows you to bring together a variety of prints (perhaps to tell a story from one particular day or showcasing your family as it has grown). But, as well as this, a gallery of canvas prints will make a great feature wall for your home too.

To do this style, you need to think about several things before you begin. It is a good idea to map out how you want the pictures to look by laying them on the floor in the right places. That way, you can see which ones look right next to the others.

It is best to start with the centre print as this will be the focal point of the entire gallery set-up and the centre from which you work out where the other prints go.

It is essential to make sure that you leave around 2 inches to 4 inches between each picture. Suppose you are worried that this will take up too much room or that it won't fit in your chosen space. In that case, we recommend cutting out paper replicas of your prints to size and then sticking them to the wall; that way, you can step back and see if they all work together in the space you want to display them.

Hanging the print up

Before you start to hang the print up, you want to make sure that the wall is clean; you also want to move the furniture out of the way to make as much space as possible.

It is always a good idea to have someone to help you, as you will need to have your tools passed to; however, it is also a good idea to have all the tools and other items you need close by hand.

If you want to protect your wall, you should always place wall protector pads on the wooden frame to prevent scratches.

The quickest way to hang up pictures is to use a nail and a hammer simply. The top wooden bar will need to be placed over the nail, which you must not hammer in more than two thirds as you need to have enough of the nail outside to allow the nail to support the frame's weight.

Whilst this method is suitable for smaller prints, if you have a giant print, then a simple nail will not be able to offer enough support for the weight, which means that you should think about another approach.

As we have already mentioned, it is better to use a bracket or a wire to hang up your print in these circumstances. These have slightly different ways that they can be attached to the wall; however, in the most part, they are much the same.

Once your print is hung up and displayed, then you can start to enjoy it. It will brighten up your home and give you the chance to add a touch of your personality to it too. Both of which will help to make your home your own.
